The Fort Leavenworth to Fort Laramie passed through the
Adams and a corner of Mitchell to Richmond
township and to the town of Richmond where it crosses the Nemaha River at this time
when in1858. In the year 1859 the trail was changed to
cross the river at Seneca.
The dark lines are not explained but in traveling
the county you will see that this marks a steep rise in
land. The town of Kelly Kansas joins the township on the
southwest corner with steep hills.
