Seneca
did not exist till after 1859 when Capt. John Smith changed the
trail to go over his bridge and up what later became Main Street of
Seneca, Kansas. These maps are of the trail from 1857 to 1859
and the day the it was surveyed and what that person saw and
recorded.
Capt John Smith changed the river
crossing from Richmond to what was to become Seneca Ks. He did
this by seeding oars or millet on the trail making a trail leading
to his bridge on the Nemaha.
The "Wildcat Creed Cut Off"
shows up on this map for crossing the creek when it was dry.
